Capitol riot suspects charged in assault of Sicknick denied bail

View Comments Calling them threats to the community, U.S. District Judge Thomas Hogan denied pretrial release for George Tanios and Julian Khater. They were charged in the assault of Sicknick, who grew up in South River and died after defending the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. According to the FBI, Tanios and Khater, who no longer live in New Jersey, know each other and grew up together in the New Brunswick area. Hogan said the assault with chemical spray on Sicknick and two other officers contributed to the mob’s ability to breach the police line that had been guarding the Capitol.
