Chicago Teachers Union rushes to end charter school strike as new struggles develop
After only two days, the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is rushing to end the strike by 34 teachers at Urban Prep Academies in Chicago, announcing Wednesday that they had reached a tentative agreement with the network of charter schools. The tentative agreement (TA) is said to be for three years, with a reopening of the deal next summer, while the date when teachers will vote on the agreement has not been reported. Basic facts about the TA have also not been made public, with the
Chicago Tribune noting, “Neither side has provided details on what the tentative contract provides in pay and benefits.”

Major staffing changes are rocking the house at Stages . On Thursday Stages announced Managing Director Mark Folkes, whoâs been at the company since 2015, will step down in late April. Folkes, who previously worked in leading positions at Houston Symphony and Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Inc, will join the Greater Houston Community Foundation as the new chief growth officer.

Kilian helped forge the Bayou City s place on the national literary stage, founding Brazos Bookstore and co-founding Inprint.

Mention the name Karl Kilian to just about anyone in Houston s literary community, and theyâll come back at you with a story about the Brazos Bookstore founder.
âKarl seemed to have read every book he ever stocked,â recalls Matt Henneman, co-owner and current chairman of Brazosâs board of directors, âand he never failed to have a great recommendation handy.â
Adds Blue Willow Bookshop owner Valerie Koehler: âHe was the consummate bookseller, knowledgeable in every way. Karl was a staunch supporter of the literary arts in Houston; a legend in the Houston book scene.â
