A group representing 24 communities in three Vermont counties announced it entered into a memorandum of understanding with internet service provider Great Works Internet of Biddeford, Maine, in partnership with ValleyNet of Royalton, to secure broadband access for every home and business in its district.
DVFiber, the Deerfield Valley Communications Union District, said its governing board unanimously approved the MOU at a special meeting Thursday.
âWe are pleased to begin work alongside GWI to complete this vitally important work,â DVFiber Board Chairwoman Ann Manwaring said in a news release. âWith this budding partnership, the vision of securing broadband access for everyone in our district is just that much closer to becoming a reality. We are fortunate to have funding from the [federal] American Recovery Act to accelerate our work.â

BRATTLEBORO â As colorful flowers reemerge around downtown Brattleboro, just in time for summer, so does a familiar face who waters and takes care of them. People might notice that Dick DeGray isnât in his normal watering truck, but a new one that he and Stephanie Bonin, executive director of Downtown Brattleboro Alliance, were able to purchase through fundraising.
âEnd of last year we were having difficulties with the water truck. . It wasnât going to be usable this year,â said DeGray. âWe started a campaign to fundraise for a new water truck. We raised $29,000 for it, which was quite impressive; it was overwhelming to see that much community support for the flower program.â
