Australia s onshore Perth basin will be the subject of a four-well exploration and appraisal drilling campaign in the coming six months in pursuit of significant gas resources.
In announcements today by Norwest Energy and Strike Energy, it was revealed that two operators - Strike Energy and Energy Resources - have contracted the drilling rig Ensign 970 for the programme of wells, starting imminently as the rig is nearing completion of its current assignment with Strike at the West Erregulla-5 well.

The West Erregulla-2 gas discovery in Western Australia.Â
Thatâs the question on investorsâ lips when it comes to Western Australiaâs Perth Basin, which is expected to become Australiaâs main onshore gas production hub in the next few years.
The basin is home to a bunch of ASX-listed resources outfits â as well as Japanese giant Mitsui â which have interests in gas discoveries like Waitsia and Beharra Springs.
Among the ASX-listed players are perennial dream deal candidates â and investment bank pitchbook stalwarts â Strike Energy and Warrego Energy, which are both developing the West Erregulla gas discovery via a 50/50 joint venture.
