Council to develop regeneration plan for Letterkenny Donegal County Council has begun a process to develop a regeneration strategy for Letterkenny town centre. Letterkenny 2040  is funded by the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), a flagship initiative of Project Ireland 2040 and led by Donegal County Council’s Regeneration and Development Team. The strategy will establish a “compelling and ambitious vision” for the future of the town as a competitive regional centre, attracting investment and identifying a series of projects to bring about a social, economic and environmental transformation of the town centre. Launching the project, Cllr Donal Coyle, Mayor of the Letterkenny- Milford Municipal District said that “this project comes at a vital time for Letterkenny as we contend with the unprecedented challenges of the public health crisis, BREXIT and the climate emergency. Planning permission granted for Multimillion Euro Developments at IT Sligo Planning permission has been approved for two major developments at IT Sligo.  It will include a complete rebuild of J Block, turning the single floor 1970’s building into a modern four storey complex that will enhance the modern state-of-the-art campus. The project is part-funded through Project Ireland 2040 and will help support additional new places for students at IT Sligo in line with the Institutes ambitious plans to increase student numbers to 10,000 by 2022.  The multi-million euro upgrade significantly boosts the Institutes plans to become a Technological University in partnership with GMIT and LYIT this year.

Minister Naughton announces publication of Regional Airports Programme 2021-2025   Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton TD, has announced the publication of a new Regional Airports Programme for the period 2021 to 2025. This year, Donegal, Kerry and Ireland West (Knock) airports will be eligible to apply for funding under the programme, which has a budget of €21.3 million in 2021. The Programme, which is underpinned by Project Ireland 2040, provides a framework for supporting airports that deliver international connectivity to their regions. Its focus is to help Ireland’s smallest airports, those that handle less than 1 million annual passengers, to maintain regulatory compliance in the areas of safety and security.
