This year’s Dell Technologies World was my first ever Dell event, so I’m sadly unable to compare it to the face-to-face version that had been running for nearly 10 years before COVID forced it online. In fact, virtual conferences are all I’ve ever known since I began covering them just over a year ago and I’m yet to experience the dubious pleasure of tasting a par-boiled croissant.
In place of such conference delicacies, Dell Technologies World 2021 delivered a healthy portion of updates to its Apex services platform. After kicking off the show with a traditional speech by Michael Dell himself, Dell CMO Allison Dew led us through an introduction to the new additions, which include hybrid cloud and deployment for its Apex Cloud Services. Dew also unveiled the new Apex Data Storage Services, Apex Custom Solutions, as well as the Apex Console.
A few years ago, Iâd watched Amy Purdy on
Dancing With The Stars, but I didnât know her back story at the time. In her late teens, Purdy contracted a severe illness that cost her her spleen, kidneys, and legs below the knee. The illness defined her future and had a huge impact on her eventual attitude. Â
Dell Technologies was also faced with future challenges. The emergence of the cloud as an alternative to on-premise hardware and the genuine possibility that cloud providers would build their hardware for server and client solutions could have put Dell out of business. Instead of ignoring this problem or shifting to become the next Amazon, Google, or Microsoft, Dell created a solid alternative for the web with Dell APEX.Â

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Wednesday took aim at Dell Technologies’ ambitious Project Apex launch, welcoming the $94 billion enterprise powerhouse to the pay-per-use on-premises cloud services market.
