Central Michigan University is “very comfortable” with hiring former U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider to conduct an independent investigation of the university’s sending students to a Lansing public relations firm despite having gone to high school with its owner, a spokesperson said Thursday.
The university, which sent students to work as interns at Vanguard Public Affairs, is opening an investigation after former employees of the firm have alleged inappropriate conduct and sexual harassment from TJ Bucholz, the firm’s owner. CMU hired Schnieder as an independent investigator to look into whether employees had prior knowledge of the claims made against Bucholz.
