TCTC to hold graduation at Eastwood Field | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com CHAMPION After having to cancel the 2020 graduation ceremony because of the coronavirus pandemic and other conflicts, Trumbull Career and Technical Center officials have found a way to make sure this year’s senior class has one. Mary Flint, director of the TCTC, said they have worked out arrangements to hold the ceremony 7:30 p.m. May 17 at Eastwood Field in Niles, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. “We felt really bad last year when we were not able to do the event for the seniors. All the schools were facing challenges on how to hold graduations. This year we have found a new venue for the event. We are very excited to be able to do this,” Flint said.

History buff, columnist loves to check out quirky places | News, Sports, Jobs

mreichert@tribtoday.com Submitted photo Patrick Finan of Cortland, one of the Tribune Chronicle’s McKinley columnists, always writes the first draft of his column on a yellow legal pad. CORTLAND Patrick Finan likes to travel to what he says are “quirky places.” The Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota? Check. Frankenmuth, Michigan, home of the world’s largest Christmas store? Check that one several times. Sturgis, South Dakota, during the annual motorcycle rally? Yep, but not specifically to see the bikes. Dix, N.Y., to see the bloody towel from President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination? And last fall, a trip to Winchester, Va., to see the hall where Niles native and former President William McKinley was inducted into the Masons? As a presidential history buff, that would be a definitive yes on both of those.
