Premium Content Subscriber only A 55-year-old man faced court on Thursday after entering a neighbour’s unit and punching him in the back of the head as the victim’s children watched on. John Frances Keys pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to assault occasioning bodily harm over the events which happened about 7.15pm on March 7, 2020. The court he and the victim “live in the same block” and were known to each other. The two men are known to each other, residing in the same complex. The victim was said to have been sitting on his couch at home, watching television with another person and his children, before Keys “walked behind him and punched him in the head”.

Premium Content Subscriber only A man has been sentenced in Hervey Bay Magistrate Court over a road incident which quickly escalated. 31-year-old William Olen pleaded guilty to five charges, evading police, two counts of assaulting police, obstructing police and possessing explosives. Police Prosecutor Sonia Edwards said the incident happened on December 13 2020 at 2:15pm. She said police began to pursue Olen as he accelerated down Main St before he pulled into an address in Rose St Pialba where police confronted him. “The defendant provided his driver s licence and attempted to walk away from police to go into the dwelling and was advised he was detained and not free to leave,” Ms Edwards said.

28-year-old Richard Cheseldene-Culley pleaded guilty to stealing a vehicle, stealing from a store and failing to appear. Police Prosecutor Sonia Edwards said Mr Cheseldene-Culley and others stole the Hilux from a mechanic business at Depot St, Deagon in Brisbane. “A Holden station wagon has attended the premises, it had a car trailer and they have loaded up the HiLux onto the back of that trailer and removed the vehicle without permission.” “CCTV footage shows the defendant obtaining that trailer which was used that evening and returning it. “There were two other co-offenders, the vehicle has not been located. The victim is out of pocket $10,000.”
