Cairns City Police Station to get bigger upgrade
Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services The Honourable Mark Ryan
Minister for Police Mark Ryan, Deputy Commissioner Paul Taylor and Member for Cairns Michael Healy have today welcomed the announcement of an additional $7 million to go towards more upgrades of the Cairns City Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner Taylor said the funding boost would support the Queensland Police Service to deliver an enhanced policing service to the greater Cairns community.
“This additional funding will cover the costs of essential upgrades to the station including an updated CCTV system and more refurbished spaces to support property management and forensics,” Deputy Commissioner Taylor said.

2019-2020 Crime Report released

The 2019-20 Crime Report Queensland, independently prepared by the Queensland Government Statisticians Office (QGSO) and released today, shows the number of unique offenders and unique youth offenders at its lowest level in a decade.
The decreased count of unique offenders in 2019-20 has resulted in the Queensland unique offender rate continuing its downward trend from a peak of 2,999 offenders per 100,000 persons in 2014-15 to 2,408 offenders in 2019-20.
In addition, the number of unique offenders in 2019-20 was down 4.5 percent from the previous year.
Jon Sullivan, a politician who represented Queenslanders for more than a decade, has passed away.

Subscriber only Jon Sullivan, a longstanding Queensland politician who represented Queenslanders at state and federal levels, has passed away at age 70. The Bulli-born politician was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Glass House in 1989 before representing Caboolture from 1992 to 1998. Mr Sullivan died on Sunday and was remembered at a funeral service on Thursday.  ALP candidate Jon Sullivan handing out how to vote forms at Narangba State School in the 2010 Federal election.
