Serial scammer conned central Pa. residents out of more than $300K, DA says Updated 1:08 PM; Police in Adams County have arrested a man accused of conning residents out of more than $300,000, District Attorney Brian Sinnet said Monday. Michael Hertz, 27, formerly of Conewago Township, preyed on about 30 victims, using a variety of schemes, the DA said. He credited township police for the arrest of Hertz, who is in the county prison in lieu of $100,000 bail. Officer Cory Ammerman wrote in arrest papers that Hertz committed the alleged scams between December 2018 and this past March 31. One man said Hertz gave him a bad check for $7,500, the officer said. Ammerman said Hertz had convinced the man to lend him money for an attorney so he could claim a $3 million lottery win. Hertz even sent that man an email from a lawyer that turned out to be bogus, Ammerman said.
