The quick response by PE K9 Unit members and the immediate activation of information received led to the arrest of five alleged hijacking suspects on Monday evening 15 February 2021 in two unrelated hijacking incidents.
In the first incident, it is alleged that at approximately 20:30 members from the Port Elizabeth K9 unit were busy with crime prevention duties in the central area when they noticed a white Datsun Go with 4 male occupants in the vehicle. The registration number was checked and the vehicle was positively reported as being hijacked in the Humewood area. The four suspects aged between 27 and 37 were arrested on charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle was impounded. Police also confiscated a gas pistol, 6 cellphones, gloves, and two leather wallets.
Jeremy Perring, 36, and Keanon Tereblanche, 27, appeared in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after they were arrested at a beachfront restaurant with a rhino horn on Friday.

A Newton Park resident was stabbed several times on Sunday morning when two people broke into his home.
The man was later taken to hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
As a result of swift action from the police, two suspects, aged 17 and 19, were arrested while hiding in a house in Korsten.
They are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court soon.

A man was arrested about an hour after he allegedly hijacked an Uber driver in Newton Park, Port Elizabeth, on Wednesday night.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said it was alleged that the 21-year-old taxi driver dropped off a client in Hudson Street at about 7.54pm when he was approached by four men in a Renault Megane.
The suspects allegedly took the driver’s cellphone, a bag and his customer’s cash.

CAPE TOWN - Police have arrested five men in the Eastern Cape, believed to be linked to local gangs, in connection with gang rape and murder of a teenager.
The 14-year-old girl disappeared last Monday - her body was found in a bushy area on Thursday.
Patronicia Jordaan is believed to have been gang raped before she was stabbed to death.
It s alleged the teenager was in the company of 12 men at a drug den last Tuesday night before she was reportedly sexually assaulted.
