Monday, December 28, 2020 Karen Ann Horst, 66, of Augusta, KS, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 peacefully at home. Karen was born in Dodge City, KS on May 17, 1954, to the late Thelma (Gunckel) and Charles Holtfrerich. Karen worked in advertising, marketing and promotion from 1973 to present for radio, TV, and newspaper, as well as concert and band promotion. She was a lover of all things music and good vibes. She would be the first one to help out anyone in need and always believed in the good in people. She received the nickname Ma by her friends because she treated them so motherly and lovingly. She never met a stranger and if she did, they immediately became part of her family. She is survived by daughter, Crystal Kletchka and husband Matt of Augusta, KS; son, Charley Horst of El Dorado, KS; grandchildren, Brandon and Dylan Kletchka, and Olivia Horst; sister, Carol Scullawl of Port Orchard, WA; 3 generations of nieces and nephews; a beloved pet, Ms. Kitty; and a multitude

Kitsap County Sheriff s deputies are investigating a suspicious death at a home on Tiburon Court in South Kitsap. SOUTH KITSAP A 36-year-old man found dead in a home in South Kitsap Saturday has been identified as William Matthews of Port Orchard, according to Kitsap County Coroner Jeff Wallis.  Wallis said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, which will determine the cause and manner of death.  Kitsap County Sheriff s Office Deputies were called to a home on the 2100 block of Tiburon Court at 12:45 p.m. Saturday after Matthews was found dead.

McCormick Woods residents worry loss of trees will change the character of their planned community PORT ORCHARD A new roundabout at SW Old Clifton Road and Campus Parkway, just west of the McCormick Woods neighborhood will help the flow of traffic as more development comes to Port Orchard. Popular Searches Campus Parkway is an old logging road that will be improved and turned into a north-to-south connector road with access to McCormick Woods and Sinclair Ridge in Bremerton, said Nick Bond, community development director for the city of Port Orchard.

BREMERTON  Heading into Christmas, COVID-19 infections in Kitsap County have slightly dipped from a peak earlier this month, though cases remain at high levels. That has health officials urging vigilance over the winter holiday.  “We are facing a formidable opponent and need to keep up the full-court press to contain this virus,” Kitsap Health Officer Dr. Gib Morrow said in an emailed statement. “Let’s help everyone have a healthy start to the New Year by avoiding gatherings with other households, wearing masks, and keeping a safe distance from others.”

Dec. 23 A pedestrian hit and killed by a car while crossing state Route 16 in Gig Harbor earlier this month has been identified. Rick Joseph Abraham, 62, of Port Orchard, died of multiple blunt impact injuries, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner s Office. He died Dec. 10 after being struck by a van. Abraham was walking east on the shoulder of Route 16 s on-ramp from Burnham Drive when he crossed the lanes and was hit, the Washington State Patrol said.
