Nine-year-old Lucy Harkness used to do have days filled with school, gymnastics, soccer or some other extra-curricular activity.
But since the pandemic began, the Portland fourth-grader’s life – not to mention her family’s home – has become filled with books. Her mother, who works at the Portland Public Library, brings home a shopping bag full of them every few weeks. Her family estimates Lucy’s read 250 books in the past year, ranging from graphic novels and young adult books to classics like “Little Women.”

PORTLAND – Ann O’Donnell Mosley, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9, 2021.
The remarkable life of Ann began on Feb. 6, 1932. She was born in Portland, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Ridge) Meehan. She graduated from Portland High School in 1950 and shortly thereafter moved to San Diego to help care for her nieces and nephews during war time. While she was in California, Ann met a young man at a USO dance. They had their first date at the San Diego Zoo. Little did either of them know, but that date would be the beginning of a 35-year marriage.
Just over a year after taking the job and about two months after being put on administrative leave, Superintendent Oscar Moreno Gilson announced his plans to sue the Woodburn School District.
Moreno Gilson notified the Woodburn school board Tuesday of his plans to sue, alleging breach of contract, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The board plans to send the superintendent a Notice of Action that Moreno Gilson s attorney said they discussed in an executive session. It is not yet known what action the board will take, though Moreno Gilson could be terminated.
Board chairman Anthony Medina declined to comment on the latest developments, saying the district has a practice of not commenting on litigation or personnel issues.
