PORTSMOUTH When it comes to getting water to the city and a fair share of county residents, the Portsmouth Water Treatment Plant has held that responsibility for more than 70 years.
On Wednesday, the
Daily Times joined Director of Water Filtration and City Manager Sam Sutherland in a tour of the facility just east of the New Boston Walmart.
“I know it might be hard to see, but there are a lot of areas of the facility that are in bad shape,” he said, serving in the department for the past 32 years.
Gov. Mike DeWine has signed a law that will create the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant Program in hopes of improving Internet access for residents and decreasing the digital divide.
Moody’s upgrades Scioto County’s issuer rating to Aa3

SCIOTO Following what was described as a successful meeting, Scioto County received an upgraded issuer rating and rating on outstanding general obligation limited tax bonds from Moody’s Investor Service.
As described in a press release, the New York City-based company said the shift from an A1 rating to Aa3 “reflects its positive property valuation and sales tax trends which have contributed to very healthy reserves that will be further bolstered by an infusion of federal funds.”
In addition to the rating, where Scioto is now considered a very low credit risk, the county had no outstanding general obligation unlimited tax debt.
‘Save our building’: Local non-profit in need of funding

The Autism Project of Southern Ohio hosted its Easter egg hunt this year, but is need in need of donations to keep its Waller Street building operating.
PORTSMOUTH- After a successful Autism Awareness month, one area non-profit is asking for help to keep its operation running.
The Autism Project of Southern Ohio took to Facebook in April to share its financial situation. President Mike Bell and Treasurer Michele King said donations are needed to save their building.
“The pandemic has really hit us hard,” King said in the April 8 video. “We’ve not been able to fundraise, so we need to reach out to the public. We’ve always got so much support from the community.”
