Your Glycemic index reminder

We were reminded about this thing called the glycemic index, which is probably really a thing, by the April 8 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. (1) The glycemic index, which we have belabored before (The glycemic index doesn’t matter, Portsmouth Daily Times 2-2-15), is defined as how much 50 grams of food containing carbohydrates raises the blood glucose level.
It might be thought of as the sugar spikiness of a food. (Spikey vs spiky makes a big list on Google) In general, spikiness is a violation of the proposition that an even keel is better and wide fluctuations are generally found to represent malfunction and/or are damaging to your health. Then there is another thing that this report looked at called the glycemic load of a diet. They calculated this by “multiplying the mean net carbohydrate intake by the glycemic index and then dividing by 100.”
Why the mayor won’t endorse a 3rd Ward candidate

PORTSMOUTH In politics, it all comes down to who has your back. Having someone’s back can mean anything from a vote to also publicly proclaiming support through front-yard signs or Facebook posts.
Endorsements of candidates are commonplace during any political season, regardless of what level. While the Scioto County Republican and Democrat parties backed the Trump-Pence or Biden-Harris ticket respectively last fall, they also pledged support to state and county candidates.
The 2021 elections will not have the draw of a presidential or even a congressional vote, a hyper-focused local attention instead of the case. The game for these local candidates- races in Portsmouth and New Boston city councils- however remains the same: winning votes.
Gary Jenkins, high school student continues active 3rd Ward campaign

PORTSMOUTH Most people his age have their attention set on their homework assignments, prom, and the epic highs and lows of the high school experience. Gary Jenkins does that as well, plus considerations for what will make Portsmouth a better place to live.
Improving the city’s infrastructure, promoting economic development, and advocating for zoning and code enforcement upgrades are the central tenants of his 3rd Ward candidacy. If elected, the Portsmouth West High School senior would be what City Clerk Diana Ratliff says would be the youngest council member since at least 1980.
Lucasville Trade Days make return for 2021 season

LUCASVILLE After one set of days last September, the Lucasville Trade Days are coming back in 2021 with three events throughout the course of April and September.
The beginning of its celebrations will open to the public with the Friday, April 23 early-bird special between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the general admission price of $5 with free parking on the county fairground lots. It will continue on Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m and the day following between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., both days free of entry for children under the age of 12.
