Three sand cats born at Zoo Boise on April 4

BOISE — Zoo Boise, a division of Boise Parks and Recreation, is excited to announce the birth of three male baby sand cats. Proud parents Nala and Simba welcomed the kittens into the world on April 4. This is both Nala and Simba’s first litter of kittens, these are the first sand cats ever born at Zoo Boise, and the first sand cats born in 2021 at a zoo accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). These births are not only important for Zoo Boise, but vital for the conservation of sand cats worldwide. There are only 51 sand cats in zoos accredited by the AZA, which means Zoo Boise is currently caring for 10 percent of the total population. Nala and Simba were paired together as part of the Sand Cat Species Survival Plan, a conservation program aimed at maintaining a healthy and genetically diverse population of sand cats in order to increase their numbers.

This Weed Found In The Boise Foothills Can Make You Go Blind

This Weed Found In The Boise Foothills Can Make You Go Blind I m not much of a hiker but from time to time I enjoy a getting out and hitting the trails. In my opinion this makes me dangerous enough to get myself in trouble. If you re like me and enjoy taking advantage of the beautiful outdoors that Idaho has to offer including hiking, you need to know about this weed in the Boise foothills that can make you go blind. The weed is called Myrtle Spurge and is described as green plant with yellow flowers. “When you break the branches there is this leaky, milky sap that comes from the plant and it s that sap that is caustic, said Martha Brabec, foothills restoration specialist for Boise Parks and Recreation in a ktvb interview. If you break the plants branches and you get that sap on your hands, that can burn you, or potentially if it got on your hands and got it in your eyes it would be problem, and obviously don t eat the sap.”

Boise Greenbelt Bikers, Hikers And Runners Beware

Boise Greenbelt Bikers, Hikers And Runners Beware Spring has sprung and the weather is getting warmer and warmer every day. In Boise this means traffic on the Greenbelt is about increase exponentially. For some the Greenbelt can be used for super relaxing weekend strolls, for others this is a training ground and whether they re running or biking they move fast. I ve done both and frankly last season I couldn t help but notice how bad the asphalt and concrete had gotten. The amount of tree root damage, uneven pavement and cracked asphalt left me wondering how many people injured themselves while on the popular path. The good news is that Boise Parks and Recreation is set to replace 5 sections of the Greenbelt starting next month. This might create some inconvenience but it will be worth it in the end. Boise Greenbelt bikers, hikers and runners beware, Click here for the map.
