70-year-old Fairfield resident Barbara Pike was injured in a two-vehicle accident last night at the intersection of West Delaware and Southwest 10th streets. According to Fairfield police, at approximately 7:45, Pike attempted to cross West Delaware traveling north. 28-year-old Fairfield resident Matthew Byars was eastbound on Delaware in the north lane in a 2015 Chevy and struck Pike's 2000 Toyota in the front driver's side. Wayne County EMS responded, and Pike was taken to Fairfield Memorial Hospital; she was also was cited for failure to yield and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. The City of Fairfield says it will hold a ground-breaking ceremony next Friday, August 27th, at 11 a.m. for a new T-Mobile, between Murphy and the CP Church by Walmart. Fairfield police say a 69-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash last night at the Intersection of Route 45 and Highway 15 west of Fairfield. Police say he appeared to be westbound on Highway 15 at approximately 8:50 when he lost control and struck a curb, then a traffic sign. The motorcycle then hit another curb and ejected the operator. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of family. The City of Fairfield, with the assistance of Frontier Community College, has announced a Back to Business Grant workshop later this week. The workshop will be held in Room 24 of Mason Hall from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairfield Zoning Officer Flo Simpson will be on hand to assist businesses in submitting their grant applications; the program will begin accepting applications on Wednesday, and it will close October 11th. The State of Illinois has announced twenty-two winners from across the state for Friday's COVID Vaccine Lottery. Each winner will get $100K for getting life-saving protection by receiving the COVID-19 Vaccine. One resident was chosen locally from the Wayne Co area. All Illinois residents who receive the vaccine will be entered for a chance to win $1 million grand prizes. Residents must receive their shots by August 18th to be eligible to win.
