Over the last two days, central Harrison County has received over 12 inches of rainfall. Flood warnings are issued near the Biloxi River and Wolf River due to heavy rain and streets have become water ways.
Rainfall has heavily affected low-lying areas. Water draining down into water ways and rivers is becoming a problem for residents who live along the Biloxi River.
Roads are blocked off on Three Rivers Road and River Road, Bonnie Street, and Ann Avenue.
Harrison County EMA Director Matt Stratton advises residents to avoid any flooded areas, certainly if you encounter flooding while driving to ‘turn around, don’t drown’ and be as safe as possible until waters recede. “We will still be under a flood warning into tomorrow for both the Biloxi River and the Wolf River. Over the Christmas weekend, Visalia police were patrolling the streets and protecting the public.
In one incident, police are still searching for the suspect and in another case, a parolee is back in jail.
At 2:20 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to Laurel Avenue and Bonnie Street for a report of a robbery.
The victim told police he was walking to his car when a masked man asked him for money. The victim said he didn t recognize the subject and handed over a small amount of cash. The masked man demanded more, Sgt. Mona Whaley said.
When the victim refused, the subject pulled out a firearm from his waistband. The victim gave the man his wallet, which contained more cash.
