The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, has charged corporate institutions within the capital to bear some level of responsibility and support the sanitation campaign under the “Make Accra Work” project.
To this end, the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly will ensure that corporate bodies who leave their gutters choked and allow scrap dealers to operate on their frontages would be fined.
Mr Quartey made the call at a stakeholder meeting ahead of a decongestion exercise along the Accra-UTC road to the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange which has been scheduled to take off on Tuesday, May 18.

MOTORISTS using the busy Jan Smuts Drive in Athlone can expect traffic to be impeded as resurfacing work has begun, with a completion date set for next month.
The City’s Transport Directorate recently started work on the north-bound carriageway of Jan Smuts Drive, from the intersection with Klipfontein Road to the N2 boundary.
Work is scheduled between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Saturday.
The project is expected to be completed by June 15, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather, the City said.
“Although no road closures are anticipated, we foresee that traffic flow will be impeded around the construction areas. To manage this, we will have flag personnel regulating the traffic flow either by temporary lane diversions or temporary lane closures.”
Tony Cook, from Warrington Borough Council’s Waste Collection Service punched the air when the team was announced winner of the Environmental Hero award at the Guardian Lockdown Heroes Awards. Dr Hilary told him: “I know how much more work you guys have had to do. Everyone seems to have used lockdown to spring clean their houses and chuck out much more junk than they normally do. Have you found that?” Tony said: “Yes definitely. I’d say there was round about a 35 per cent increase in waste and we have had to put extra crews on. But we have been using a lot of people who have been furloughed, helping local people to get work out of it.”
