With the clouds parting on cue and the lake glistening in the distance, city leaders officially opened the last stretch of the much-delayed Navy Pier Flyover project today.
“It’s taken a while,” Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Gia Biagi said of the project that began in 2014. “But we did it as funding became available and we never gave up. We kept pushing forward.”
The flyover is the final section of the $64 million project, which stretches 18 miles from South 71st to Hollywood.

CHICAGO Seventeen miles of Lake Shore Drive is set to be renamed after Chicago s first non-native settler, Jean Baptiste Point DuSable. The City Council committee of transportation voted unanimously for the proposition Thursday, but some aldermen wonder if Mayor Lori Lightfoot will veto the change when it goes before the entire City Council.
The expected change will rename a portion of outer Lake Shore Drive, from Hollywood Avenue to 67th Street.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot spends more than $110K on upgrades to City Hall including splurging on a 75-inch touch screen and $10K on a private roof garden even as the city suffers a billion dollar budget shortfall
The upgrades included around $66,000 on new equipment for the conference room, as well as approximately $38,000 in labor costs for the upgrades
The budget on the outdoor garden also increased to $10,000
The city contractor responsible for the conference room defended the costs
Lightfoot faced criticism earlier in her term for $220,000 spent on her office
The cost estimates came in at the same time Lightfoot was preparing to announce a $1.2 billion budget shortfall for the city of Chicago
