GUWAHATI, Jan 12: People of Guwahati are all set to celebrate the grand feast of Uruka which marks the onset of the Magh Bihu. Long queues were seen around various markets of the city on Tuesday. The stalls of Guwahati were laden with Til Pitha, coconut ladoo, curd and other food items for the celebration.
Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu is the most important harvest festival of Assam. The celebration begins on the last day of the Assamese month Pooh and the beginning of the month of Magh which falls on January 13-14. The night before Magh Bihu is called Uruka. The Bihu starts in the dawn by burning Meji (bonfire) where adults and children take the blessings of the fire god

GUWAHATI, Jan 12: TheBJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) will not accept individual application from any ticket seeker for the forthcoming polls, said the party s State president Ranjeet Kumar Dass while addressing the media on Tuesday.
Das underlined that the party is aware about the works of each and every party worker. Thus, there is no need for any member to submit application seeking party tickets. The party is conducting surveys and making people s report card based on which the candidates will be selected, said Dass.
According to sources, after Bhogali Bihu, the BJP will mobilize its party workers in booth level to gain organizational strength up to declaration of the election.
