The elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly provide an opportunity to reassess the fault lines in the caste, religious and ethno-geographical identities in the state and their significance in electoral politics.
Elections to the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu were held in a single phase on 6 April 2021 with a voter turnout of 72.78%. With the counting of votes scheduled to take place on 2 May 2021, the electoral prospects of various parties and alliances are in the fray.

It can be said that the only constant in Nepali politics is ‘unpredictability’. Nepal’s democratic transition has been shaped through the efforts and sacrifices of common citizens and leaders and the expectation was that the forgotten Nepali would soon get something better than the discriminatory political culture that started way back in 2015 with the new Constitution and selective political manoeuvrings.

Dr Milad Milani is is Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at Western Sydney University, specialising in Sufism and Islamic history. Dr Milani received his PhD from the University of Sydney. Dr Milani’s research broadly seeks to define, compare, and interpret religion, utilising a systematic, historically based, and cross-cultural perspectives method. Dr Milani is an internationally published academic and has published two books: Sufism in the Secret History of Persia (Abingdon: Routledge 2013, Gnostica Series) and Sufi Political Thought (Abingdon: Routledge 2018, Religion in Asia Series), and has a third book forthcoming, entitled The Nature of Sufism. He has also co-edited a book entitled: Islam, Civility and Political Culture (Cham: Palgrave Macmillan 2020).
