San Francisco Mayor London Breed is putting her trust in City Attorney Dennis Herrera to turn around the city s scandal plagued public utility body. Monday she named the one-time mayoral candidate to oversee the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
The five-member commission that oversees the SFPUC must now interview Herrera and forward him as a formal recommendation to the mayor. Then, once a contract is finalized, Herrera would be officially appointed by Breed and confirmed by the commission. Dennis is the right leader for the hard-working employees of the SFPUC and this city, stated Breed.
Herrera, a longtime champion of LGBTQ rights, is practically assured of running the agency, which his office has been investigating for alleged pay-to-play contracting violations. Previous SFPUC general manager Harlan Kelly was arrested last November by federal authorities on corruption charges.

Just before noon, two cars of theater workers pulled to the front of lanes 11 and 12 at UCSF’s City College vaccination site. One was driven by actor and recent American Conservatory Theater graduate Monica Ho, the other by actor and director Cindy Goldfield.

The Bay Area is showing its trust in science and heeding the warnings of experts, and restaurant owners still say that indoor dining isn t as easy of a sell as outdoor dining is even though all Bay Area counties but one are now allowing restaurants to operate at 50% capacity indoors.
Lots of restaurateurs around San Francisco have been hesitant both last fall when San Francisco last entered the Orange tier and then briefly got to the Yellow tier before backsliding, and now to reopen at all given their physical limitations. Restaurants without a lot of potential outdoor space have in many cases waited out the entire pandemic to date hot spots like sister restaurants Frances and Octavia, for example, though Octavia s Instagram account suggests that a reopening is imminent.

After months of waiting, any Californian 16 or older is eligible to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
On Tuesday, San Francisco jumped the gun and announced that all residents aged 16 and over are now eligible.
There are varying ways to secure an appointment including MyTurn, the vaccine-booking site run by the California Department of Health but there are also a handful of drop-in sites in San Francisco where all you need (theoretically) to do, if eligible, is walk in and roll up your sleeve.
