It’s a holiday collective effort by the Pocono Record’s Toys for Joy program.
In 2019, thanks to our readers, the campaign raised $17,166.
The money was distributed earlier this year to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network, the Salvation Army, and Pocono Services for Families and Children.
The gift of giving
Residents of Monroe County have been struggling to provide for their loved ones because of the pandemic.
And for many, it came down to a difficult choice: Pay the rent and bills or buy gifts to place under the Christmas tree.
That’s why Toys for Joy and other programs such as Toys for Tots are a vital part of the community, says Tom Campbell, president of the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) -Hundreds of toys were given out to families of Cape Girardeau County on Sunday.
It’s part of the Toys for Tots Program ran by the Marine Corps League.
People were able to come by and get their bag full of toys for their children this Christmas.
People we talked with said they couldn’t be more grateful.
“We have 8 kids and it helps us a lot,” John Killian said. “It’s hard for 2 people to get gifts for 8 kids and it helps us a lot.”

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Vincennes University may not be Santa’s workshop, but it is a partner with the Marine Corps Reserve and keeps gifts for the Marines annual Toys for Tot program safe all year long at VU’s Logistics Training and Education Center (LTEC) in Plainfield.
The 30,000-square-foot warehouse facility houses toys, books, and many other gifts that are safely tucked away until Santa’s big day, when more than 40,000 children in 13 counties throughout Central Indiana will receive presents under their trees.
The chance to partner with the Marine Corps Reserve and Toys for Tots program presented itself earlier this year, when the charity needed new warehouse space in Central Indiana due to an expansion at its previous location.
