TACOMA - A growing outcry from Tacoma city leaders continued into Monday, after an incident involving a Tacoma Police Officer running over a bystander during a reported illegal street race on Saurday night.
On Monday, Tacoma Police released the name of the officer involved in the incident as Officer Khanh Phan, a 58-year-old man who has been a member of the Tacoma Police Department for more than 29 years.

Jan. 10 The number of homicides in Tacoma skyrocketed last year, and detectives solved fewer than usual.
It s the first time in three years Tacoma police did not solve all homicides in the city.
There were 32 homicides in 2020, including the death of Manuel Ellis while being restrained by officers. Eight of those cases remain unsolved, giving the Tacoma Police Department a 75 percent clearance rate.
That s the second lowest the department has had in 16 years. The lowest was in 2017 when detectives did not solve four of 12 homicides, making the clearance rate 66 percent.

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. - Several law enforcement agencies were searching Tuesday for the driver of a suspected stolen car that apparently struck a Bonney Lake police officer who was trying to get the vehicle to stop, authorities said.
Shots were fired during the incident Tuesday morning at the Fred Meyer store in Bonney Lake, located in the 20900 block of S.R. 410, but it was not clear who fired the weapon. Authorities have not said publicly if the officer was hurt during the encounter, which occurred about 10:15 a.m.
