Want Normal? Get Vaccinated

You’re doing great, Rio Arriba County!     In this see-saw mask, no mask; open your business, close it; stay home, go out; we’ve mostly kept our virus infection rates down, outbreaks few and business closures to a minimum.     We’ve got to hang in there and meet herd immunity.     We’re firm believers that telling people to wear masks, wash their hands and counting infections is not good journalism. We’ll leave that to someone else to harp on readers to follow health guidelines and look at numbers.     However, we are going to plead with readers to jump on the vaccine train and drag someone with you for the ride.

$2M plan on the table to clean up Hawrelak Park lake for activities

EDMONTON The lake situated in Hawrelak Park may soon get a bit more use during the summer months. Edmonton city councillors are discussing a $2-million plan to make the water at Hawrelak Park clean enough to paddle on. But, it would still not be considered safe enough for swimming. Phosphorous levels are considered too high for safe human swimming, mainly because of the geese and their droppings. Steve Bourdeau with World Triathlon Edmonton told city council s Community and Public Services Committee he wasn’t surprised with a city report that found sediment disruption and lawn fertilizer were partially to blame for poor water quality.
