Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, died on April 9 at the age of 99. Prince Philip was the president of the Royal Windsor Horse Show (RWHS) for 30 years, and competed at the highest level in polo and carriage driving. He was the longest-serving FEI President (1964-1986), introduced carriage driving as a discipline, and used his engineering interest to develop state-of-the-art carriages for competition. His design for the bendy pole is still used today. Elsewhere, his genuine and engaged patronage of the Pony Club encouraged youth involvement in horse sport at a grassroots level.

Flirting is back - and the Jubilee Line has suddenly become a singles bar…

Credit: iStockphoto “Nice trainers!” I told a punter queuing for his jab at a vaccination centre in a Croydon shopping centre this week. In my defence, they were nice Nike trainers, and he was young, handsome and had something of a swagger about him. Or so I thought, anyway. Then I also thought: “Oh no, Sophia, has it really come to this? Flirting while you’re on duty? You’re supposed to be helping the war effort, not flashing your hi-vis vest and chatting up people when they’re waiting for a shot in the arm, potentially vulnerable and at a low ebb.”
