First Coast Foodies: Crazy taters! Chow down at Mr. Potato Spread
If you re walking through Regency Square Mall and your mouth isn t watering, that will change when you reach Mr. Potato Spread in the food court. Author: Renata Di Gregorio Updated: 9:06 AM EST February 5, 2021
For our First Coast Foodies of Black History Month, we re featuring a restaurant based around one ingredient: potatoes.
If you re walking through Regency Square Mall and your mouth isn t watering, that will change when you reach Mr. Potato Spread in the food court. They serve taters like you ve never had em before. The crab pot potato is my first love, said Co-owner Lakita Spann. I can eat the crab pot potato any day of the week, not always on a baked potato. Sometimes I do it on mashed potatoes, a lot of times I do it on fries. My favorite is the crab pot on our sweet potato.

As a general rule, nothing sparks nostalgia that takes us back to our roots like food. That’s especially true for the owners of Mr. Potato Spread, a Black-owned restaurant in Regency Square Mall.
“Our families would say you can taste the passion and the food,” co-owner Lakita Spann said.
Their best-selling item is the “Crab Pot,” a recipe that had been passed down for generations. The secret to the recipe is in what they learned from their grandmothers.
