Bend Brush Fire Was Human Caused
Bend Fire & Rescue crews quickly extinguished a small brush fire on 15th Street and SE Lostine Circle Wednesday. No homes were evacuated due to the fire, but three homes were put on alert. The fire grew to nearly a half-acre. 15th street was briefly closed while crews put out the fire. After investigation, it was determined the fire was human caused but it is unknown if it was intentional or unintentional. Investigation will continue.
Bend Fire & Rescue would like to remind the community that the fuels are already dry and fires will grow quickly in these conditions.
Bend Boy Caught With Airsoft Guns
A 12-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly threatening other kids with an airsoft pistol near Pilot Butte Middle School. Bend Police received multiple Tuesday afternoon near the 1700 Block of NE Neff Road and Larkspur Trail.
“Officers were able to locate the juvenile a short distance away on the 1800 block of NE Neff Road,” according to Bend Police. “The investigation led to the recovery of two airsoft pistols and a small amount of marijuana. No injuries were reported and all involved parties have been identified. There is no threat to the community. The Bend-La Pine School District was notified and the juvenile was released to his family.”
From my front door on NE Lotus Drive, adjacent to Pilot Butte, there s a paved bikeable foot path that tracks all the way to Reed Market Road, straight through the heart of the Larkspur neighborhood no stop lights and very few street crossings. Its two variations are known as Larkspur and Coyner Trails, however, I informally refer to the network as the Eastside Promenade (Prom). Summit HS student COVID-19 cases rise to 24; no in-person classes through next week
Principal distressed by reports of aggressive social media posts
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) The number of Summit High School students who have tested positive for COVID-19 has risen to 24, mostly from exposures to those who attended a party last weekend. As a result, classes by distance learning will continue through next week, the principal said Saturday.
That s twice as many exposures as reported as of late Thursday, before Bend-La Pine Schools offered free testing on Friday at Pilot Butte Middle School.
