Introduced in 1939 as a tiny two-door with a 90-inch (2,286-mm) wheelbase, the Ford Anglia is far from famous in North America. But at some point in time, it used to be a popular choice among drag racers.
When it comes to drag racing stories, we often hear the ones about legendary racers like Don "Big Daddy" Garlits and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. But this 1970 Plymouth Dragster comes with a more touching family story that goes back to the 1990s.
1986 Mustang with a 2-Valve 4.6 L V8
Mark Anderson and his 1986 Mustang competes in NMRA/NMCA factory stock class. To meet class regulations, Mark runs a naturally-aspirated 4.6 L 2-valve V8 from a F-150 truck with Bullet Racing camshafts and a Holley EFI system. The motor produces 380 horsepower tuned by Matt Bell of Redline Motorsports. The drivetrain uses a G-Force 101A four-speed transmission and 8.8-inch rear end with 4.88 gears. Watch Mark run several low-10’s at Byron Dragway.

This procharged C6 showed up at Byron Dragway sporting a Budweiser livery. It s a bit strange for an amateur race car to feature corporate sponsorship, but it s not entirely unheard of. Apparently, the current owner doesn t know a lot about the car s racing past, but he identified it as a 2009-model-year C6.
It also appears to be a ZR1 version, based on the vents on the front and rear fenders, the intake on the nose, and the badge on the rear fascia. The interior is hard to identify as a ZR1 since the range-topping model didn t look all that different back in the day.

Bringing a brand-new, Shelby GT500 with just 300 miles on the odo at the drag strip may sound like a bad idea, but that s how they did it back in the day. Range-topping muscle cars were usually designed with drag racing in mind in the 1960s and owner would often drive them from the dealership to the strip. 1 photo
This isn t an ordinary GT500 either. This muscle car is fitted with the Carbon Fiber Track Pack, a $18,500 bundle that makes the GT500 lighter and more nimble at the race track.
