Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Soignet said Friday that detectives continued investigating and obtained information that Simmons paid Rondell Dewey, 25, of Gray, to shoot and kill Taylor. The investigation revealed that Simmons drove Rondell Dewey to Cameron Isles Apartments where Dewey committed the murder and was driven from the scene by Simmons, the Sheriff s Office said in a news release.
Simmons had posted $750,000 bail and was released earlier from the Terrebonne Parish jail, the Sheriff s Office said.
Based on the latest information, the Sheriff s Office said it obtained an arrest warrant for Simmons on one count of solicitation for murder. He was arrested Friday by the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Patterson and returned to the Terrebonne jail, where he is being held on $2 million bail.
Authorities continue to investigate a Houma nightclub shooting over the weekend that left five people injured, two critically.
Shots rang out just after 1 a.m. Sunday at Lenny s, a bar at 656 Corporate Drive, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet said.
When deputies arrived, a large number of people were seen running from the building as gunshots were being fired, Soignet said.
“There was a very large crowd inside the bar,” the sheriff said Monday. “A fight broke out between several subjects and one of them pulled out a gun and began firing into the crowd. The crowd attempted to flee the bar. The shooter was also seen firing shots at the ceiling.”
