I am sitting in one of my favorite places, the elegant sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Belmont, North Carolina.
Here I have been for my grandsons’ confirmation and other family events. High above me are windows with glass that allows the sun’s light to illuminate the room in colors and hues, both amazing and soothing. In front of me is a handsome man, young to me, but I suspect he considers himself middle-aged or a little beyond.
His name is Sam Warner. He is lead pastor of this solidly successful Presbyterian church. Sam stands straight and tall with broad shoulders and a radiant smile, commanding the attention of the congregation with strong voice and a solid presence.

Whether in local history or even today we often see that human emotions are certainly timeless and that is especially the case in at times of tragedy. Of course any death is heart rending, but perhaps most catastrophic is the death of a child â and in what some might call a preventable accident.

Speake , accompanied by his small son, was driving his team through the alley between Pinkerton Street and the courthouse square. Then the boy alerted his father about another boy who was âsleepingâ in a car parked behind the Wallace Music Store.
