RIVERHEAD, NY A police officer saved a baby choking on a Lego piece at a Riverhead day care Monday, authorities said.
The Riverhead Town Police Department said they received a call at 8:49 a.m. that the infant was choking at the Pine Tree Day Nursery on Roanoke Avenue.
Police Sgt. Jill Kubetz arrived within one minute of the call and realized the baby s airway was fully blocked, police said. She performed back thrusts, which dislodged the 2-inch Lego piece from the child s lower airway, police said. The Lego moved enough to allow for limited airflow, police said.
