Event set for June 4-5 at PNG Park
JOHNSTOWN Visit Johnstown announced today that PolkaFest will take place June 4 and 5. As previously announced, the event was unable to be held at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Cambria City on June 4-6.
The event will be held at Peoples Natural Gas Park, 90 Johns St., downtown Johnstown.
“PolkaFest’s cancellation was met with such great disappointment,” Visit Johnstown’s executive director, Lisa Rager said. “Although St. Mary’s is not able to serve as the host site this year, we decided to explore alternate dates and locations to see what was workable.
Valeria Yackshaw Genetti, 83, Hazleton
The wife of Gus Genetti Jr., Val had a witty sense of humor and an endearing smile. Her favorite things were family and traveling, but mostly it was combining the two â traveling with her family around the world. She loved Neil Diamond and ABBA, enjoyed playing pinochle, reading Danielle Steele books, watching detective-cop shows and enjoying coffee in her bedroom in the mornings. She was the vice president of the Genetti Hospitality Group of Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport and Dickson City. She was a past board member of Kingâs College Century Club, past president of W-B Jaycettes, past president of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Auxiliary, past board of directors of CYC, member of the Slovak Heritage Society and a volunteer of NEPA Red Cross Blood Center. She died Dec. 22.
Violet Gloria ‘Vee’ Sabo Hayes
YORKTOWN Violet Gloria “Vee” Sabo Hayes, 92, passed away after a brief illness Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, from complications of COVID-19.
She was born to John and Mary Sabo, in 1928 in West Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Vee graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1946 and attended Geneva College. Her parents and brothers, John and Tom, preceded her in death.
She married Jack Hayes in 1948. She was preceded in death by Jack and her daughter, Linda Tischler (Hank).
Vee is survived by Kathy of Loveland, Colorado, Jack (Connie) of Yorktown and Patrick (Kasey) of Pleasanton, California. She had seven grandchildren, Linda’s, Melissa and Ben; Kathy’s, Jessica; Jack’s, Emily (deceased); and Drew and Corinne and Pat’s, MykelPatrick. There are five great-grandchildren, Alexa and Linden (Melissa and Glenn), Oliver and Ronen (Ben and Alisha) and Sawyer (Jessica and Alex). She leaves, also, many cherished nieces and nephews.

Mark Stephen Mohoroski, a lifelong resident of Weirton died Sunday, December 20, 2020, after a six-week battle with COVID-19. He was 59 years old.
Mark was born in Weirton on April 19, 1961, one of three sons born to Michael and Mary Ann Hrustic Mohoroski.
Moe graduated from Weir High School in 1979 and furthered his education at West Liberty State College. After graduation, he accepted a job at Kaufmann’s, where he became the head of security.
In 1989 he joined his childhood friend, Matthew A. Magnone at Assure America where he was currently a senior executive and corporate treasurer.
An avid and talented golfer, Moe loved the camaraderie of golfing with his friends and the numerous golf trips where he traveled to Myrtle Beach. Moe was fascinating. He could recall just about every shot to every round he played.
