The Upper Adams School District today announced working with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) leadership to create a comprehensive plan to address past and present allegations of discrimination at Biglerville High School, located in the district.

We are immediately working with racism experts at the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission to develop expanded training and student outreach through the creation of brave spaces where students may communicate their experiences comfortably and start the healing process.

Update on Monday: The Upper Adams School District is working with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission to address allegations of discrimination over decades at Biglerville High School, according to a news release.
Supt. Wesley Doll and commission staff have met, and the parties will work on a plan to address these issues head-on and start the healing process, executive director Chad Dion Lassiter said in the release. We encourage the students, faculty and community members to approach this difficult reality through a new lens, to try to see the humanity in your neighbors, and seek commonalities rather than differences, Lassiter said.
BIGLERVILLE, Pennsylvania (WPMT) More than 1,500 people have signed onto an online petition which calls to help Biglerville High School students feel safe at school while holding students and staff accountable for alleged racist views within the school community.
The petition on Change.org also includes anonymous stories from students and alumni which detail their accounts of abuse by students and staff in the Upper Adams School District.
Creators of the petition share different examples of racism they say students experienced:
“I am a 14-year-old black female student. [A teacher] told me Breonna Taylor’s death by police violence was her own fault.”

Robert H. Gilbert, age 74, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at his home. He was born Wednesday, April 17, 1946, in Gettysburg, the son of the late John R. and Janice M. (Raffensperger) Gilbert.
Bob graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1964. He attended DeVry Technical institute in Ohio. He was formerly employed by Valley Quarries in Gettysburg for over 35 years.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg.
He was involved with the Boy Scouts of American for over 50 years, having served as cubmaster, scoutmaster, committee chairman, district commissioner and received many scouting awards. He was a founding leader of Scout Troop 1863 of Trinity United Church of Christ in Gettysburg. He assisted his two grandsons with their Eagle Scout Rank. He also belonged to the Moose of Gettysburg.
