Oklahoma Will No Longer Accept Cash on Toll Roads in a Few Years
The future is now and if you don t have a Pike Pass, you will want to get one.
Here in Texas we have the Toll Tag, in Oklahoma they have the Pike Pass. If you have either one, they re accepted on toll roads in both states, in fact it s also good in Kansas as well. If you re someone that pays your tolls in change or bills, that will be going away.

Starting soon the Kilpatrick Turnpike in the Oklahoma City area will no longer have a toll booth. You will just drive through, if you have a Pike Pass, nothing changes. If you typically pay with change or cash you will receive a bill in the mail for the toll. Tolls are cheaper with the Pike Pass so you may want to get one if you don t have one yet. I got my Toll Tag a few years ago and it s definitely worth it to just keep on driving through those toll booths.

TULSA, Oklahoma -
In less than a week, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority will start the switch to cashless payments for tolls.
They say drivers traveling to Oklahoma City will start to see changes starting Sunday night at midnight heading into the workday on Monday. The first phase only impacts the John Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City, but Green Country drivers could start to see changes on the Creek turnpike as early as next year.
Barnes Tag Agency is at 91st and Sheridan sells anywhere from 250 to 300 pike passes a month. Tag agents say you can sign up for a pike pass online then choose to get it mailed to you or pick it up in person.

TULSA, Oklahoma -
The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says its switch to “cashless” toll booths is a long-term initiative.
OTA officials say the transition will happen over the next 5 years starting Sunday night at midnight. The first phase only impacts the John Kilpatrick Turnpike, which is important to know if you travel to Oklahoma City. Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation, Tim Gatz, says this won t impact the Pike Pass system and you don t have to do anything if you already have one. However, if you don t have one, you could see higher toll fees. The new cashless system utilizes Plate Pay, which takes a picture of your plate and sends you a bill. If you do not pay the bill, you could have problems renewing your tag.
The days of using cash to pay tolls on one metro turnpike is coming to an end.
Effective July 25, toll booths on the John Kilpatrick Turnpike will be shut down as the stretch of roadway will be converted to ‘cashless tolling.’
“This conversion to cashless tolling is going to be a long-term initiative,” said Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation, Tim Gatz during a press conference Monday afternoon.
In the last 6 years, Gatz said toll plazas have been the site of more than 500 crashes including one near Newcastle in June 2020 involving an ambulance on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike.
Plazas, Gatz said, have proven dangerous.
