New COVID-19 mutations have been detected in Malaysia and Singapore

Just when we think that we can finally breathe a sigh of relief in 2021, new mutations of COVID-19 have been detected in Southeast Asia.
According to Malaysian Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the new strain has been dubbed A701V.
It was detected among 60 samples that were taken from the Benteng LD cluster in Sabah recently.
Would the vaccines be effective against the new strains? The A701V and a spike protein mutations, have also been reported in other countries including South America, Australia, the Netherlands, and Singapore.
