The Bears had won five titles in a row from 2015-2019 before last year’s championship was canceled due to COVID-19; Baylor was again ranked No. 1 in the nation at the time. Having lost the chance a year ago, this year’s title was all the more special.
“I don’t think anybody understands,” says head coach Felecia Mulkey. “The sigh of relief to get to this point is unbelievable… There were so many times we thought we wouldn’t be able to compete at all.”
Instead, the Bears brought home yet another title the 12th national championship in Baylor varsity sports history. In addition to A&T’s six titles, Baylor has also won championships in men’s basketball (2021), women’s basketball (2005, 2012 & 2019), men’s tennis (2004) and equestrian (2012).
