Toyota Gazoo Racing has completed the first full test of its 2022-specification World Rally Championship car in Portugal.
Played out on gravel roads, the test of the team s new Rally1 car was overseen by the team’s technical director, Tom Fowler, and follows the first running of the GR Yaris-based competition car with its hybrid kit in Finland earlier this month.
On that occasion, the squad’s recognised test driver Juho Hanninen covered 600km in the supermini.
Confirmation of the Rally1 car’s presence in Portugal came in a video on the team’s YouTube channel this afternoon.

Sebastien Ogier says not even a “perfect performance” in Portugal would have been enough to deny Elfyn Evans a first victory of the 2021 season.
Evans finished the fourth round of the World Rally Championship 28.3 seconds clear of Hyundai’s Dani Sordo, with reigning champion Ogier a further 55.3 seconds off the pace in third.
The result narrow’s Ogier’s lead in the drivers’ standings to two points, meaning the Frenchman will once again perform road-sweeping duties on the opening day of Rally Italia Sardegna next week.
