MISHAWAKA â Patrick Justice was driving along McKinley Avenue on the way to visit his mother before midnight Friday when he was stopped by police near Monterrey Bar and Grill.
As he came to a halt just past Division Street, Justice saw hundreds of people pouring out of the bar and rushing across the street, or into Ubers and Lyfts in the road.
âAll of a sudden we were stopped by police because all of these kids were screaming and running and I thought, âOh my God thereâs an active shooter somewhere,ââ Justice said.
Thinking those fleeing were in danger, Justice urged three people into his car. Once they were inside the vehicle, Justice learned the crowd was made up of mostly underage Notre Dame students trying to escape being caught by police.
