The Chicago Symphony Orchestra premiered Price’s Symphony No. 1 in 1933, yet the African American composer’s work disappeared after her death in the 1950s. House renovators rescued Price’s hand-written scores from the trash in 2009, and her work is now being performed and recorded again. Hear Stephanie’s account of the revival of Price’s oeuvre, illustrated with several musical excerpts.
