The town forum agreed to pay around £8,000 to subsidise Stagecoach services into the evening. The meeting heard there had been a big drop in usage of the buses last year because of the lockdown, with passenger numbers falling by 80-90 per cent. Strategic director Richard Botham said that without the subsidy from the town forum, city councillors who represent the city area, the services would have been stopped. Cllr Martin Tod, portfolio holder for economic recovery, said the £8,000 a year subsidy for three nights was incredible value because it not only enabled the night buses to run but also persuaded Stagecoach to run services in the early evening in the gap until the night service started.

The community had been fundraising to purchase the plots, which hit the market following the liquidation of building company Davis Development. But the land has instead been snatched up by an unknown buyer. A spokesperson for the parish council said: Badger Farm Parish Council are disappointed we weren’t successful today in purchasing the land known as Davis Kickabout, along with surrounding pockets of land. We don’t know who purchased the land and what plans they may have but we as a parish council intend to work very closely with Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council to preserve this land for the future recreational use of our residents.
