New ward councillor for Guiseley and Rawdon

GUISELEY and Rawdon has a new ward councillor after Conservative Paul Alderson was elected to Leeds City Council. Cllr Alderson replaces fellow Conservative Pat Latty who is retiring after more than a decade in office. The new councillor is a father of two and is local to Guiseley. He said: I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone across the Guiseley and Rawdon Ward who voted for me in the Leeds City Council Elections. It is an absolute privilege to be given the opportunity to stand and represent the best interests of our area as a Leeds City Councillor.

Funding for laptops for primary school children in Guiseley and Rawdon

FUNDING to help provide laptops and tablets for primary school children has been approved by Guiseley and Rawdon ward councillors. The councillors approved a grant from their Covid-19 ward funds for schools to provide IT equipment for pupils without access to devices to help with their schooling. It is hoped that this equipment will be put to good use as part of ongoing studies and homework as well as enabling better home-schooling should the need arise again in the future. Cllr Pat Latty said:“We wanted to ensure that these Covid funds could be used right at the heart of our community and for a purpose where it can do most good. Covid has robbed our children of so much in these past 12 months, we were determined that this funding would be put to good use by the

New benches in Parkinson s Park

TWO new benches have been installed in Guiseley s Parkinson s Park. Guiseley and Rawdon councillors Graham and Pat Latty have donated a black bench from their MICE money - funding which is allocated for councillors to give to local projects. The bench is in the park s orchard with a view towards Rombalds Moor. Cllr Graham Latty said: As the orchard develops it will be a beautiful, sheltered spot to sit. Parkinsons Park is a wonderful example of what local people can do and is proving an ever more popular place for people of all ages to spend a quiet hour. There are spectacular views and what better that to sit a while taking in the best of Aireborough?

MORE than £9,000 funding has been approved to help refurbish the facilities at Guiseley Theatre. The three Guiseley and Rawdon ward councillors approved the grant from their discretionary wellbeing funds to revamp and turn the men’s toilets into a modern, unisex facility with baby changing facilities. It is believed that making the space unisex will mean shorter queues for theatre users. With the theatre closed due to Covid restrictions, now was seen as the perfect time to complete the disruptive work and the ward councillors say they are delighted to be able to award the grant to complete the work.
