A Connecticut man was arrested by state police for allegedly refusing to wear a face mask while inside a courthouse amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pedro Borrero, age 36, of New Haven, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 15, when Connecticut State Police responded to the New Haven Superior Courthouse located at 121 Elm Street, in New Haven, for a complaint of a disturbance.
Troopers received reports that Borrero entered the lobby and was not wearing a face mask as required by executive order. Borrero was immediately escorted out of the lobby and detained by US Marshals, state police said.
Borrero was charged with violating breach of peace and violating an executive order/face mask.

NEW HAVEN A city man was arrested Friday after allegedly refusing to wear a mask while inside the courthouse on Elm Street, according to Connecticut State Police.
Pedro Borrero, 36, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and violating the precepts of Executive Order 9B-2a(1), which mandates the wearing of a face covering.
Troopers from Troop I in Bethany were dispatched to the courthouse Friday for a reported disturbance, state police said on their blog.
A New Haven had to be removed from the city’s courthouse Friday afternoon after he refused to wear a face mask, screamed at court staff and caused a disturbance.
New Haven Man Arrested for Violating Executive Order Written by Connecticut State Police
On Friday, January 15, 2021 at approximately 2:57 p.m., Troopers out of Troop I-Bethany were dispatched to the New Haven Superior Courthouse located at 121 Elm Street, New Haven, CT. for a complaint of a disturbance.
Troopers received reports that Pedro Borrero (D.O.B: 10-24-1984) of 89 Paul Street, New Haven entered the lobby and was not wearing a face mask as required by the Executive Order. Borrero was immediately escorted out of the lobby and detained by Marshals.
Borrero was charged with violating (C.G.S. 53a-181) Breach of Peace in the Second Degree and violating Executive Order 9B-2a(1) violation of Face Cover Requirements. Borrero was released on a $2,500 non surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 12, 2021 to answer to said charges.
