Activist group Mizzou 600 organized a protest on April 29 against the future implementation of the MU Department of Social Justice restructuring plan. The demonstration started on the steps of Jesse Hall, where speakers began listing the ways the Department of Social Justice had aided them. Two unnamed MU staff members followed the demonstration, stating that their purpose was to ensure the protest was safe. Following their beginning chants and opening statements on the steps of Jesse Hall, demonstrators walked inside to continue the protest. The demonstrators continued to chant and give statements regarding the restructuring. Staff observed the demonstration from the upper level of Jesse Hall.

Maneater | AAPI vigil organizers encourage future discussion about racism in the U S after Atlanta shootings

By Teagan King One month after two MU students organized a vigil at Speakers Circle to remember the victims of shootings in the Atlanta area, they and other Asian students hope to continue the conversation about racism against Asians in the United States. The shootings took place on March 16 at three different spas in the Atlanta area. Eight people were killed, six of whom were women of Asian descent. Amy Schaffer, a freshman journalism major, and Kevin Duong, a freshman business major, worked together to organize the vigil, which took place on March 19. They noticed a lack of response to the shootings from anyone in Columbia, so they felt something must be done to honor the victims.

Maneater | MU introduces alternative after Harlan cling removal

Harlan, the Great Pyrenees, and his owner, Cris Wood, are often seen walking around MU’s campus and interacting with students passing by. When Harlan’s sidewalk cling went missing recently, distress broke out on social media. Wood posted an Instagram picture on Feb. 11 of Harlan next to his damaged sidewalk cling with the caption, “What happened here ( Landscaping)?” Multiple followers’ demanded MU to fix the sticker immediately, tagging Mizzou in the comments. “I went up there and I saw that a bunch of [the cling] was scraped off, maybe three-eighths of it, so I posed Harlan for some pictures,” Wood said. “Like, who did this?”
