SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. - Firefighters stopped the forward progress of a 2-acre wildfire burning in Big Basin Redwoods State Park on Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews are still on the scene of the 6.7-acre Basin Fire, that broke out in Big Basin Redwood State Park this afternoon. The blaze, which burned in an area that was scorched by last summer s CZU Lightning Complex Fires, was first reported at 12:10 p.m. Although fire crews contained the wildfire, they will stay with it overnight.

Is wildfire season already here?
The season is now year-round in California, but there are signs it s starting to pick up.
Firefighters responded to a wildfire Sunday in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, and on Monday desiccating offshore winds are leading to heightened wildfire danger.
A red flag warning is in effect for the Central Valley and a portion of Solano County in the Bay Area through 5 p.m. Tuesday. North winds will range from 15 to 20 mph with isolated gusts up to 40 mph. Fires will start more easily and the potential for rapid spread of fire will be high, warned the National Weather Service.
As part of California’s Wildfire Preparedness Week, Cal Fire and Cal OES were in the East Bay Monday to warn residents that peak of wildfire season is arriving earlier this year. The agencies, which held a press conference in Orinda, say more equipment, more firefighters and more technology will be in place to fight what may be another summer.
