In 2019 it was hailed by the Duchess of Sussex for its “exceptional” work and “absolutely delicious” baked goods – and now the London-based Luminary Bakery has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for excellence in promoting opportunity.
The social enterprise is one of 205 winners of the business award, given to companies for their work in international trade, innovation, sustainable development and, since 2017, promoting opportunity. Previous winners across the categories include Jaguar Land Rover, Airbus and Regatta and, in the food world, Tyrrells crisps and Fever Tree.

It s out of the kitchen and into the Hastings Library, where Kiwi cook Allyson Gofton will be hosting a French-inspired baking presentation next week.
On behalf of the Hawke s Bay French Association, Gofton will be returning to Hawke s Bay on May 5 to share stories from her time in France, along with a baking presentation and demonstration.

Market researcher Kantar said everything from canned meat and beer to sugar and bleaches flew off the shelves, with the United States accounting for the largest chunk of the spending, followed by Western Europe, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia. Data for the report was collected from households in 42 countries, representing 66% of the global population and 83% of gross domestic product (GDP), Kantar said. Beverages, dairy and food, which typically account for almost two-thirds of global grocery sales, saw the biggest gains, with 15 of the top 20 categories most positively impacted by COVID-19 coming from these sectors, according to Kantar s 2021 global FMCG Omnichannel report released on Wednesday.
Directions
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a tube or Bundt pan. Set aside.
Step 2: In a large bowl with a mixer, cream 1 cup softened butter with 2 cups sugar. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beating with each addition.
Step 3: Add 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract; beat well.
Step 4: In a separate large bowl, combine 2 cups sifted flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add to the wet mixture and beat.
Step 5: In separate bowl, combine 4 teaspoons sugar, 1 cup chopped pecans and 1 teaspoon cinnamon for the filling.
Step 6: Place 1/3 of the batter in the greased and floured tube or Bundt pan. Sprinkle with 3/4 of the cinnamon-pecan filling mixture. Spoon in rest of batter and sprinkle with remaining filling. Bake 1 hour.
