Former Mount Vernon mayor details brush with death

Former Mount Vernon Mayor Andre Wallace had a brush with death when he was thrown to the ground as a driver plowed through a local bagel shop.
Wallace was at the Bagel Zone on Main Street last Friday when an elderly woman lost control of her Jeep.
Instead of backing out of her parking space, she drove straight through the glass storefront, destroying the store and missing Wallace, who jumped out of the way by inches.
Wallace, the shop s owner and an employee were hurt during the accident.

Andrew Wallace, Mount Vernon’s former mayor, had a close
call on Friday after when a Jeep plowed through a bagel shop in New Rochelle.
Police say the driver of the Jeep accidentally put it in
drive instead of reverse outside Bagel Zone on Main Street.
Employees and Wallace, who was inside the shop, are
recovering from injuries sustained in the incident.

There were two employees of the bagel store who were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The buildings department respond are going to check out the store, which is now boarded up.
The majority of the front entrance was ripped down from the accident,
Officials say the accident appears to have been due to driver confusion.
The car had been parked in front of the business and the driver put the car in drive rather than reverse.
The driver of the Jeep also sustained a minor leg injury.
