Legislators strip local governments of ability to regulate home-based businesses Mary Ellen Klas, The Miami Herald May 1 TALLAHASSEE A bill that sent one of the strongest shudders through city and county governments because it prevents them from imposing new regulations on home-based businesses was passed Friday after the Florida Senate narrowly approved it on a botched vote on the final day of the legislative session. A priority of House Speaker Chris Sprowls, SB 403 requires local governments to regulate home-based businesses the same way they approach other commercial enterprises. Critics warn that it will dismantle local zoning laws and leave neighborhoods unprotected against unwanted commercial activity, unless they have a homeowners association.

KPL to present ‘The Why s and When s of Car Maintenance’ COURTESY OF THE KINGSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY KINGSTON The Kingston Public Library will present “The Why s and When s of Car Maintenance” with Chaya Milchtein, of Mechanic Shop Femme, at 6:30 p.m. May 3 via Zoom.  Learn when and why to perform specific maintenance tasks, including changing oil and filters, tire pressure, coolant and much more. This class helps viewers become more educated consumers so they can protect their investment. Questions are encouraged. Milchtein is an automotive educator, writer and speaker, and founder of Mechanic Shop Femme. Her work has appeared or been featured in publications ranging from the Chicago Tribune to Shondaland. She has seven years in the auto industry under her belt and three years of virtual courses. She can be found on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter.

Posted By: Staff April 7, 2021 Donald Chastain, of Thatcher and a United States Army Vietnam veteran, entered into rest Thursday evening, April 1, 2021, at the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in Globe. He was 72. Donald Wayne Chastain was born on January 19, 1949 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Everett Martin Chastain, Jr., and Vivian Caroline Peiler Chastain. Everett Chastain, Jr. made the United States Army his career, so the family moved many times from Kentucky, twice to Germany, Missouri, and to Virginia when Everett worked at the Pentagon. They finally moved to Hawaii, home to Vivian, when he retired from the Army. Don graduated from Waipahu High School in 1968 and joined the Army following his father’s footsteps. He was with the last All Hawaii Company and did Basic Training in Fort Ord, California. After his training at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, Don was transferred to Germany, came home on leave, and married his high school sweetheart, Jeannie. He then
